The Professional Researcher engages directly in independent research and functions as an independent investigator and has the major responsibility and leadership for his research program. The appointee possesses the subject matter expertise and creative energy necessary to function at a high level of competence. The appointee will participate in activities to increase, improve, or upgrade competency. Appointees with Professional Research titles do not have teaching responsibilities.
Skills required for this position include extensive experience with travel behavior research, the development and application of travel survey methods for the collection of travel and attitudinal data, the use of quantitative methodologies e.g. multivariate statistical analysis methods and the estimation of (a) econometric, (b) structural equations, and (c) discrete choice models, the ability to apply advanced travel demand forecasting models, the ability to conduct big data analysis and apply machine/deep learning techniques, and evaluate the effectiveness of transportation and land use policies. Further, the candidate will need to publish research results in high-quality peer-reviewed scientific journals and write proposals to obtain funding from federal and state agencies and other funding organizations.
