Assistant Professional Researcher – Micromobility Researcher

Job Description

The UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS-Davis) and the BicyclingPlus Research Collaborative seek to hire a researcher to study the policy outcomes and travel behavior impacts of bicycling and other traditional and emerging forms of micromobility. The researcher will develop an effective research program encompassing the adoption, use patterns, and impacts of micromobility modes as well as policies and professional practices related to these alternatives. The research program should consider the role of micromobility modes in the larger transportation system and may extend to the study of other modes of transportation.

The researcher should have both qualitative and quantitative research experience, including but not limited to the development of surveys, development of analytical frameworks/tools, experience with simulation analysis, and experience managing and analyzing complex and large data. The applicant should also have experience in disseminating research results to policymakers using policy briefs, webinars, and other means. The researcher will possess knowledge of the theories used to understand both individual behavior and policy making processes.

The researcher will engage in the following activities: develop research protocols and write grant proposals, advise graduate and undergraduate students, conduct independent and collaborative research projects, analyze data and synthesize literature, publish in academic journals, and present at academic and professional conferences. The researcher will be expected to participate in professional societies or other educational/research organizations, editorial boards, etc., and to give invited presentations, review manuscripts, and review of research proposals.

Qualifications

• Applicants must have a Ph.D. in engineering, transportation, urban planning or another transportation-related field.
• A record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, and some postdoctoral and mentorship experience is required.
• The applicant must possess expertise and experience in designing and conducting research.
• Knowledge and proven experience in qualitative and quantitative data analysis, including statistical modeling
• Experience developing analytical frameworks and tools.
• The applicant should have experience in managing confidential personal data securely, and knowledge of IRB requirements related to personally identifiable information.
• The applicant should be competent in the use of statistical software and have experience with at least one scientific or statistical programming language.
• The applicant must have a demonstrated ability to secure research funding, and ability to initiate, coordinate, and conduct research programs in a variety of transportation research fields, and with a variety of funding sources, including state and federal agencies, private industries, and foundations.
• Strong interpersonal collaboration and networking skills are required, along with the ability to function at a high level of competence, and to work effectively with individuals representing a diversity of backgrounds, interests, and positions, both within and outside of the University of California.
