Biography

Alberto Ayala has 30 years of professional experience in industry, government, and academia and is recognized internationally as an expert in air quality and climate science and policy. He is Executive Director and Air Pollution Control Officer of the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District, Adjunct Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at West Virginia University (WVU) and former Deputy Executive Officer of the California Air Resources Board. Previously, Alberto was a Professor at WVU and a Design Engineer with Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical. Trained as a mechanical engineer with BS, MS, and PhD degrees from the UC Davis, he has authored more than 160 peer-reviewed publications and reports, is a contributing author to the book “Ambient Combustion Ultrafine Particles and Health,” and author of the upcoming book “Three Forks in the Road, the Volkswagen diesel cheating scandal.” Alberto’s internships were with GE’s Corporate Research Center in New York, the California Energy Commission, and the Atmospheric Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Laboratory at UC Davis.
