If California Gov. Jerry Brown has his way, the Golden State is about to go green in a big way. As is often the case, as California goes, so goes the nation. So get ready for more electric cars and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in garages powered by solar and wind energy. Daniel Sperling, director of the Institute of Transportation Studies at the University of California, Davis, said Brown’s goal is feasible. “The auto industry is on track for continuing large improvements in energy efficiency—achieving a 50 percent reduction from 2010 to 2025,” Sperling said in an email. “In that sense, the 50 percent reduction between 2015 and 2030 is quite plausible, not just for California but also nationally.”
