The California Integrated Travel Project: Building a Modern Transit Experience in California

Time

Location

Abstract

Today, there are hundreds of public transit providers in California—with no single system for collecting fares, verifying eligibility for fare discounts, or providing up-to-date vehicle arrival information to riders. This lack of uniformity creates barriers for new riders, complicates travel across different systems, and increases expenses for individual providers. The California Integrated Travel Project is an initiative to build a modern and consistent experience for Californians by enabling contactless, open loop payments, automating customer discounts, and standardizing information for easy multimodal trip planning. This seminar will discuss challenges to integrated mobility today, efforts by Cal-ITP to address barriers, and opportunities in the future to reimagine how California can change its relationship with transit agencies and private mobility providers to better serve Californians of all incomes, ages, and abilities.
