Big Wins for the Campus in the Grand Challenges’ Wicked Problems Focus Areas

On May 13, Climate Solutions celebrated a resounding success when the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded UC Davis a Climate Change and Transportation Center, to be led by Kari Watkins, professor of civil and environmental engineering at UC Davis and affiliate of the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies. The award, which will total up to $7.5M over three years, will make UC Davis the home base for the only national transportation center focused on climate change.

Agencies seek to open $38 million wildlife underpass in Los Gatos

“Having an underpass or an overpass would allow for animals to safely cross through but it has to be linked to fencing,” said Fraser Shilling, the director of the Road Ecology Center at the University of California, Davis. “So if you have that combination of a crossing structure and fencing then we’re definitely going to help with wildlife crossing safely across the highway.”
