Drunk Driving Arrests Decline in Some Cities

“It’s pretty clear a lot of people use it as way of behaving safely on Friday and Saturday nights, which are the nights ride sharing is most popular,” said Dan Sperling, the director of the Institute of Transportation at UC-Davis. “Eventually the price of taking Uber will drop a lot and these services will increase tremendously in the future,” Sperling said. “It seems perfectly reasonable to clamp down on drunk driving laws when people have other choices.”

A 2017 study by Michael Nicholas of the International Council on Clean Transportation and Gil Tal of the University of California Davis supports that theory. Tal said EV owners will be bigger spenders than gas-pumping drivers for two reasons. “They are waiting a little longer and because of the price of most pure EVs, they are higher income people.”
