2015’s Best & Worst Cities to Be a Driver

Traffic safety, costs and innovation are major concerns that call for attention from consumers, government leaders and industry professionals alike. For insight into these issues, we asked a panel of experts to weigh in and offer their advice. Daniel Sperling, Director of ITS-Davis gave his thoughts on key concerns. “Cars are parked and unused 95% of the time. Cars cost over $8000 per year to own and operate (counting depreciation, insurance, etc.). If you have 2 or more vehicles, try downsizing your household fleet, and using car sharing and ride services such as Lyft and Uber and occasional car rental when you need them.”
