Many people have no idea how to use their thermostats — and it’s costing them

With Americans cranking up their air conditioning to bear the summer heat, it’s time to talk about those confusing little devices on the walls of your home: thermostats. But it turns out that many of us don’t have a clue what we’re doing with these devices, according to new research. “The responses to [a] survey paint a remarkable picture of a technology that is widely misunderstood by its users,” note the study authors, led by Marco Pritoni of the Western Cooling Efficiency Center at the University of California, Davis.
