Last Wednesday, the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies sponsored a transportation funding forum at the Sacramento Area Council of Governments. Panelists included Matt Carpenter from Caltrans, highly respected transportation consultant Ron Milam, UCD professor Debbie Niemeier and a staff member of the California Transportation Commission. The foursome reiterated the same startling message: We don’t have enough transportation funding to repair existing roads much less build new ones. Further, we have no idea where future transportation money is going to come from. While multiple ideas were floated, nothing seemed within reach.
