In the Bay Area, Renting Electric BMWs by the Half-Hour

For the price of a few gallons of gas, Bay Area residents can now zip around in a purely electric version of the compact coupe using DriveNow, a electric-car-sharing service that may appeal to younger drivers, who “crave spontaneous access to mobility rather than the expense and responsibility of car ownership,” according to Tom Turrentine, director of the Plug-in Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Research Center at the University of California, Davis.
