President Obama’s budget to boost funding for California transportation projects

The proposed budget has about $1 billion for transportation and construction projects in the state, but some experts say more innovation is needed. Daniel Sperling, Director of the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies speaks with Alex Cohen to give his insights. “Our infrastructure is falling part – roads, bridges, and transit systems are starved. Our first priority is to fix the system. We also need to become more creative and innovative, because right now people just depend on their cars because there are no choices. We’ve got a transportation system that hasn’t changed in a fundamental way since the interstate highway system was introduced. We need innovation very badly, and we can use the information technology revolution and services like ride-sharing to achieve this.”
