Biography

Paul Gruber is Executive Director of the STEPS research consortium, disseminating knowledge of alternative fuel and vehicle transitions to decision makers in government and industry. Prior to joining STEPS, he completed a global analysis of lithium availability and demand for electric vehicles with researchers at the University of Michigan and Ford Motor Company. While in Michigan he helped launch an advanced battery management startup company, and he co-wrote and won a $35 million Department of Energy manufacturing grant for a cathode materials producer.

Paul has also worked as a business development consultant in China and Mexico, completing industrial and residential water resource projects, and as a management consultant at Kaiser Associates in D.C. He also has interest in international development, previously managing Strategies for International Development, a non-governmental organization working to eliminate rural poverty and build democratic practice in Latin America.
