2013 Outstanding Dissertation Co-Winner – Geoff Morrison

In this interdisciplinary dissertation, Geoff ably employed econometric techniques to analyze the extent of peer influence on transportation mode choice decisions and used the sophisticated Global Change Assessment Model (GCAM) to explore potential future changes in the carbon intensities of various biotechnologies. Being able to span the divide that sometimes exists between social sciences and applied/natural sciences is a useful, too-rare skill, and Geoff demonstrates that he can skillfully fill this niche. His methodologically rigorous dissertation is an original and useful contribution to the field.
