2013 Outstanding Dissertation Co-Winner – Ting Wang

Ting’s dissertation work was impressive because it required the development of original, creative techniques for mining a large amount of data from diverse sources, as well as mapping, translating, and otherwise transforming variables across multiple models, all in the service of answering questions immediately relevant to public officials making pavement maintenance decisions. It is noteworthy that Ting’s approach is already being used by researchers at multiple other institutions and, in a simplified form, by California highway officials. These applications are clear evidence of the utility of Ting’s work.
